MANAGER

ABOUT THE ROLE

Person reports to: Committee

The role of the Nursery Manager is to provide professional leadership and management of the nursery, to effectively manage the day-to day running of the nursery and to deliver the highest standards of care and education. You will be expected to comply with all regulatory requirements and support staff to feel confident within their roles.

You will hold a full and relevant qualification in Early Years at Level 6, understand and ensure the requirements of the EYFS and Ofsted are met and have experience working in a busy nursery setting in a leadership position. An enhanced DBS is required.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • To provide a positive practice role model to ensure that the FHCC values are maintained and promoted.
  • Promote high standards of quality within the nursery in respect of the environment, resources and experiences offered to children.
  • Ensure that all children attending the nursery receive rich and stimulating experiences appropriate to their age and stage of development.
  • Ensure that practice and provision in the nursery meets the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage.
  • Ensure that children are kept safe, and that staff understand when it is necessary to follow Safeguarding Procedures.
  • Promote and facilitate partnerships with parents/carers and other family members.
  • Support the development of good practice with regards to special needs and inclusion.
  • Support pre-school staff in delivering the Foundation Stage; ensure that provision in the nursery meets the requirements of the local EYDCP in relation to nursery education grant funding for three and four-year-olds.
  • Establish, develop and maintain highly professional working relationships with relevant Local Authority Departments, regulatory bodies and other agencies.
  • Create and maintain a culture of self-evaluation and reflective practise throughout the nursery, including involving staff in decision making.
  • Manage the day-to-day operation in order to ensure the health and safety of the children, their parents and carers, the team, and any visitors to the nursery.
  • Adhere to all health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Be fully aware of all emergency and security procedures.
  • Be responsible for ensuring the nursery remains compliant in respect of suitably trained staff with relevant first aid qualifications.
  • Be responsible for ensuring that all staff receive Health and Safety training.
  • Maintain accurate records, ratios and produce management information as required.
  • Facilitate inspections by regulatory bodies and implement any recommendations.
  • Ensure accurate reporting in respect of occupancy, quality, and standards.
  • Recruit, induct, support, train and appraise all staff to ensure delivery of high-quality childcare practice.
  • Develop a well-qualified and experienced team able to meet and exceed all relevant standards.
  • Identify training needs; develop training plans and evaluate training undertaken by staff and yourself.
  • Work in conjunction with Human Resources and committee in disciplinary and grievance investigations and hearings.
  • Develop open and positive working relationships with staff.
  • Proactively represent the Company and advance its interests in the local community.
  • Promote the nursery to current parents and potential customers.
  • To show parents around the nursery facilities and send out important information to parents.
  • To ensure that equality of access and opportunity is afforded to all staff, parents, and children. 
  • To ensure organisation of staffing schedules and holiday rotas to ensure adequate staffing levels are maintained in accordance with ratios and nursery procedures.
  • Support the implementation of any quality assurance scheme identified as appropriate by your early years’ advisor.
  • Ensure that all staff develop and maintain friendly and professional relationships with parents and carers.
  • Plan and attend monthly meetings for staff to discuss current issues, updated policies, and any other important information.
  • Be responsible for ensuring that all complaints and concerns are actively resolved in a timely manner and that these are reported to the committee.
  • Responsible for some administrative duties associated with the nursery.

DEPUTY MANAGER

ABOUT THE ROLE

Person reports to: Manager.

The role of the Deputy Manager is to assist the Nursery Manager to provide professional leadership and management of the nursery and to help ensure that all children receive the highest standards of care and education for children aged 6 months–5 years. In the absence of the Nursery Manager, the Deputy will undertake the overall day-to-day management of the nursery. To ensure the nursery runs smoothly to promote a solid foundation of good practice for staff, volunteers, and parents. 

You will hold a full and relevant qualification in Early Years at Level 3 or above, understand and ensure the requirements of the EYFS and Ofsted are met and have experience working in a busy nursery setting in a leadership position. An enhanced DBS is required.

RESPONSIBILITIES

You will ideally hold a level 3 qualification in Childcare, Education and Learning; however, we will also consider candidates who hold their level 2 qualification and have demonstrable experience working in a busy nursery.

  • Provide feedback to parents about their child’s day at the nursery via the blossom app. Inform parents when their child is sick or not their normal self.
  • Assist room leader to ensure displays are changed regularly and in line with themes and seasons, that everything in the room that needs to be is appropriately labelled.
  • Answer the phone or entry phone system as appropriate.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Person reports to: Manager/Room Leader.

Bank staff are required by nurseries to cover for or supplement their permanent or part time staff. Typically bank staff cover for sickness, absence, holidays, and periods of temporary fluctuation in child numbers. Bank staff should understand and apply the settings policies and procedures. You will be expected to provide the highest level of care and education for children attending the nursery. 

Employment is on a casual zero-hour basis, and you will be contacted via WhatsApp if and when work is available, sometimes at very short notice – early in the morning. Please note that we are unable to guarantee hours of work.

You will ideally hold a level 2 qualification in Childcare, Education and Learning.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provide high quality care and activities for the children and to recognise both individual and group requirements in a secure, safe and stimulating environment. 

• Ensure you are familiar with the key policies and procedures, especially safeguarding children, equal opportunities, behaviour management and health and safety. You will be provided with a copy of the nursery’s guide to policies and procedures. 

• Within reason to be able to respond to requests to work at a setting, sometimes at short notice. 

• To uphold the confidentiality of the setting at all times. 

• Never leave the room / nursery / childcare location and put your colleagues at risk of being out of ratio – unless in case of emergency. 

• To promote at all times good relations between staff members, parents and children, and promote the quality ethos of the setting. 

• Assist in the implementation of the typical day within the setting. 

• Assist with child routines such as sleeping, feeding and general supervision. 

• Assist with the care, maintenance and security of all equipment and toys within the setting. 

• Be aware of child protection issues and accidents to ensure that any remedial action is taken immediately. 

• Ensure that no child is ever left on their own in the room / nursery / outing. 

• Support the children in serving their own food, milk, drinks, and snacks and encourage good nutrition and sociable eating. 

• Assist children with personal care, including changing nappies, assisting with toileting and other associated welfare duties. Ensure you consult the up-to-date care plan for each child in your care. 

• Action and monitor all child safeguarding / protection issues / accidents to ensure that any action is taken immediately. Following the settings policies and procedures, ensuring management/safeguarding lead are informed of any concerns.

• Ensure the room is kept tidy and organised to allow for the efficient use of time and to maintain the high-quality standards that we have set as our on-going objective. 

• Clean obvious marks or spillages (doors, floors, walls etc) as soon as they happen, within reason. 

• Ensure rooms, toilets and corridors are left tidy and cleared away at the end of the day to include children’s clothes and shoes, resources, cups, plates, utensils, food, drink etc.

• Help Maintain the safety and security of all children, employees, and visitors to the setting. 

• Be familiar with the settings Health and Safety policy. 

• Ensure the cleanliness of the children at all times. 

• Ensure that all information relating to the setting, its operation, children, staff, and parents / carers is treated with the utmost sensitivity and confidentiality.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Person reports to: Manager.

The office administrator’s role is to provide administrative support for the Children’s Centre ensuring the smooth running of the company’s office. You will undertake administrative tasks, ensuring the rest of the staff has adequate support to work efficiently.

The tasks of the office administrator will include responding to mail (post and electronic) organising and filing documents. The ideal candidate will be competent in prioritising and working with little supervision. They will need to be self-motivated and trustworthy.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • To work in accordance with and uphold the centres policies and procedures.
  • Maintaining security for the building by maintaining a visual on the main entrance and security camera of the building. 
  • Notifying appropriate people that a visitor has arrived to see them.
  • Keeping track of the people arriving for appointments and when they leave the building.
  • Log staff overtime, holiday, and sickness.
  • Answering phone calls and responding appropriately to the caller’s needs.
  • To operate an appropriate filing system and administrative duties.
  • Organise and schedule appointments.
  • Attend meetings, take, and distribute minutes to staff.
  • Write and distribute email, correspondence memos, letters, faxes, and forms.
  • Develop and maintain a filing system, create files for new children
  • Order nursery supplies including weekly food order and room resources. Research new deals and suppliers.

  • Book travel arrangements for nursery trips.

The nursery is looking for an experienced cook with a passion for preparing fresh meals using fresh ingredients and the ability to cook healthy food from scratch.  The cook must have a natural warm personality to fit in with our friendly community run nursery. The right candidate will be up to date with all environmental health guidelines and have awareness of allergies and allergens. You must be willing to complete training and refresh knowledge and must hold a level 3 Food Safety qualification. An enhanced DBS is required.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • To be responsible for the day-to-day running of the kitchen, ensuring compliance with registration and legislative requirements at all times.
  • Responsible for the planning and preparation of food to provide meals in accordance with our nursery menus and food policies.
  • Ensure that all individual dietary requirements are catered for in line with parental guidance.
  • Maintain necessary kitchen procedures and records in accordance with environmental Health policies and processes.
  • To prepare a weekly shopping list and help with putting the shopping away.
  • Liaise with nursery Administration Assistant on the ordering of necessary kitchen equipment and order food in line with the menu, show the ability to order correct amounts of food and control kitchen stock.
  • To undertake any other reasonable catering duties as requested by the Nursery Manager.
  • Ensure the kitchen and equipment is kept suitably clean at all times including walls, and floors, following a cleaning schedule. On a daily basis all crockery, cutlery and cooking utensils are washed in accordance with food safety guidelines.
  • Ensure that all foods are ready at the specified time and correctly served.
  • To maintain the company’s equal opportunities policy ensuring that children, parents, and the staff team are valued, and practice is positive and non-discriminatory.
  • To ensure you have a clean uniform, including head wear, daily and wear suitable footwear for working in a busy kitchen space.
  • To give feedback to the Nursery Manager about the kitchen including any situation that may be detrimental to the company.
  • Ensure the effective and regular removal of waste materials to the designated waste area.
  • The ability to work as part of a team and use your own initiative.
  • To have total responsibility of the kitchen, cleaning all of the equipment and appliances, take temperatures of the food, fridge and freezer and record these in the kitchen file.
  • Responsible for control, storage, and rotation of kitchen stock.
  • Maintain an awareness of food allergies keeping an up-to-date log of all children in the nursery, working with the staff team during new admissions.
  • Update your knowledge and awareness of Health and Safety issues including COSHH regularly.
  • To be responsible for the hygiene and complete all Risk Assessment within the kitchen area.
  • Prevent cross contamination of food within the kitchen area.
LOCATION & COMMITMENTS
  • Permanent contract.
  • Full-time.
  • 32.5 hours per week.
  • Fellowship House Children Centre, St Bartholomew’s Rd, E6.
  • May be asked to work some weekends due to training.
